Bass Amplifier

Saint Four

Valve warmth. Solid-state authority.

Deep lows, a midrange that speaks and enough bite to carry the chorus. Saint Four brings the character of the Ampeg SVT-4PRO to your session or pedalboard, from rounded fingerstyle lines to bright slap tones and driven rock bass. Find the feel with Gain and Compression, shape the voice with the tone controls, then use the graphic EQ to give the part its place in the mix.

Based on

Ampeg SVT-4PRO

Saint Four recreates the Ampeg SVT-4PRO from its original circuit schematics, following the signal from the three-valve 12AX7 preamp through the tone controls, graphic EQ and bridged MOSFET power stage. The model includes the optical compressor and limiter, along with the way the power supply responds under load. Gain and Master let you explore the interaction between preamp character and power-stage drive, while the familiar voicing switches and five-position midrange selector put a wide range of bass sounds within reach. Saint Four models the amplifier head; add your choice of cabinet plugin or Anagram cabinet block to complete the rig.

Inside the processor

Controls with a purpose.

From valve warmth to power-stage punch

A modelled three-valve 12AX7 preamp and bridged MOSFET power stage bring body, bite and the response of a power supply working under load. Set the drive with Gain and Master, with a 15 dB input pad for hotter signals.

Five midrange voices

Shape the foundation with Bass and Treble, then choose one of five midrange frequencies to bring out low-mid weight, a focused growl or extra definition.

Ultra Lo, Ultra Hi and Bright

Add low-end weight and a mid scoop with Ultra Lo, lift the top end with Ultra Hi, or bring the attack forward with Bright. Three familiar switches make broad changes quick to dial in.

Nine-band graphic EQ

Refine the sound across nine bands from 33 Hz to 8 kHz. A dedicated EQ Level fader lets you balance the volume of your shaped sound, and the EQ switch brings the whole curve in or out.

Optical compression and limiting

Settle the performance with the onboard optical compressor, then use the power-stage limiter to rein in harder peaks. Limit Defeat switches the limiter out when you want to explore the amp's clipping character.

Desktop crossover

On desktop, the Crossover control adds a variable 24 dB/octave high-pass filter before the power amp to tighten the low end. Turn it fully down to switch the filter out.
